Selected as 1 of 33 out of 172 applicants to take part in the Student Exhibition at the biannual Amman Design Week under the theme of “Possibilities”. Being a participating student designer, I was given a mentorship with a local designer and a financial grant to bring Makhtoum to life.
Makhtoum is a fictional brand that sells various products (clothing, textiles, etc.) inspired by old Middle Eastern Postage Stamps. The brand acts as a way of reflecting on the past through visual material reinterpretations for the future. All of the stamps used for the first batch produced were from across the Levant, and part of my mother’s personal collection started as a child.
Amman Design Week is an immersive experience in local and regional design and culture, supported by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah. Focused on creating a forum for learning, exchange and collaboration, this platform empowers designers through its comprehensive program of large-scale curated exhibitions, student and community programs, workshops, talks, competitions, and cultural events.
